Passing by Solar Homes on De Courcey Island

by lise on September 15, 2008

This summer we spent several weeks sailing throughout the Gulf Islands in British Columbia, Canada.  On a not-so-windy-day we sailed close to shore to check out the coast and came across a row of houses with solar panels.   From our catamaran we could see that some of the houses had solar electric and others had solar hot water panels (one had both).

Although the Gulf Islands are well suited to collect solar energy, you don’t see photovoltaic arrays often.  That’s what made this row of homes on De Courcey Island so exciting.  We only got photos of three of the houses, but there were at least five in a row with solar panels.  We have no idea about the “sun story” behind this cluster.  Perhaps one day we’ll find out.
