We have a buddy who uses a solar panel to chill his food. He bought an older 58-quart thermoelectric cooler and attached his 48-watt solar panel to it.
Thermoelectric coolers typically rely on 12-volt power from a cigarette lighter, or the like, to run the built-in cooling fan inside them. This cooler can heat or chill food to at least 36°F below (or above) the outside temperature. These coolers are popular with boaters, RV enthusiasts, and tailgate partygoers who want to maximize their cooling space and eliminate the need for ice.
Modern thermoelectric coolers come in white or light colors to reflect light and deter additional heat. That also eliminates the need for the extra umbrella. :-)
